MY PURE AND INNOCENT AND VEGAN AND MACROBIOTIC AND PERFECTLY HEALTHY FOOD ADVENTURES on the road - PART 1

wow hi. i have been away for so long and i am so sorry because there are probably so many people out there that miss me so much and feel like giving up on life because i have not been around for so long. i am sorry! the past month i have been riding in an azn tour bus across canada and america with my parents. all of us ~ like mini azn jack kerouacs.

though we are very kawaii as a family, we are also a very like culturally defining and culturally significant kind of family, like kawaii beatniks, so i hope you understand my absence.

anyways, everyone knows eating is essential to life and eating food that is yummy is even more essential to life. so i will tell you my favourite foods i have eaten on my travels.

my first yummy food of the trip was really good katsu don from 'chaya' in banff. it was made by real japanese people. you could tell because they didn't have weird maki rolls on their menu.

evelyn's coffee bar in banff is also great and has iced cappuccino that is very good and you should try it if you like the taste of very strong and handsome espresso beans. while i was in one of their locations the barista was playing a (kind of) creepy song by the everly brothers called 'all i have to do is dream,' which is actually a song where the singers try and pretend to be me (in case you didn't know).

~ VANCOUVER MUST TRYs ~

next was vancouver. these are all sorts of foods you must try if you go to vancouver. i will show you all of them here! (imho) first there is a place in vancouver called richmond where all the azn people are. there are thousands and thousands of azn people, many who are young and look like glam kpop stars!

(list below is in no particular order, just numbered for the sake of organization.)

1.) jade seafood's 'smoked grandpa chicken' and steamed garlic scallops

when i was in richmond, i first went to 'jade seafood' which was recently featured in a huffington post article because animal rights people went there and got into fight with the owner because of shark fin. i think shark fin is evil too, but tastes very yummy. however i would be willing to give it up, but re jade's steamed garlic scallops or their 'smoked grandpa chicken,' i could never give those up! even if it saved many rain forests or anything like that. they are both that good!

2.) jade seafood's dim sum (personally like: pork neck)

i also ate dim sum at jade the next day 9am and felt very happy. someone said it is one of the best in richmond i think. my favoutie was the pork neck because it tasted like candy, the best candy i have ever tasted in the world.

3.) osaka's takoyaki (richmond night market)

another food you must try is the stuff at the 'richmond night market.' the takoyaki by osaka is very good.

4.) le tigre's 'kick-ass rice' (richmond night market)

there is also this thing called 'kick-ass rice' invented by these guys called 'le tigre.' it is not called kick-ass rice for no reason. it kicks your ass, in a very good way, like in short gentle intervals. almost like a soothing massage for horrifyingly painful ass-cramps. that might not sound very appetizing, but i am not great at describing food. basically, it's very good and that's all you really need to know.

5.) l'espicerie's pork belly, pearl barley risotto, truffle oil mashed potato

granville island is another great place in vancouver. it has a lot of arts people around selling their arts to people. 'l'espicerie' is super good food place inside the public market there. i had pork belly and pearl barley risotto and mashed potato with truffle oil from l'espicerie and it was really good and cost me like $12 which seems expensive for a public market, but is quite affordable if you think about it. it also came with a small salad.

6.) ginger sake ice cream (granville)

there is also an artisan sakemaker place on granville island called 'artisan sakemaker.' their name says everything you need to know. i did a trio tasting with my dad and it was literally the yummiest sake ever. i then took 'ginger sake ice cream' and it is undeniably the best ice cream flavour ever invented in the world, and no one could really ever argue and disagree with me because it is just the truth.

7.) terra breads 'blueberry bread'

terra breads is also there and has the best blueberry bread. my really glam friend laura brought me to the more glam 'terra breads' shop in kitsilano (4th avenue which is a really 'happening' place according to her) and i got a sandwich and she got blueberry bread. she let me try some of her blueberry bread and i died a little inside because it was so good. they have another terra breads at granville too, so i went there later and as soon as i saw terra breads there, i bought another blueberry bread for myself and didn't even really share it with my parents it was so good! i did not even take a photograph of it because i was so compelled to eat the whole thing as soon as it was in my possession. so instead i made a photo of it in powerpoint which is pretty accurate representation in my opinion. (for real google image result click here)

8.) japadog (personally like: kurobuto terimayo)

japadog is another really yummy place in vancouver. people in vancouver are probably bored of it and they would probably tell you it is overrated, but don't listen to them. it is so good! it will make you happy and feel great about yourself. it's that good! i got their most popular one (kurobuta terimayo) and also tried tonkatsu and okonomi from my parents, but kurobuta terimayo was the best!

9.) kirin seafood's dim sum (personally like: har gow dumpings)

my foodie friend matt (who is a REAL foodie because he is not only good at eating food but also great at being a swag master chef who makes food as well), he told me to try kirin seafood, which is good at dim sum. the dim sum ended up being some of #the_best_i_evr_had even though the people who work there acted weird. like the people there don't talk to you, and they walk around as if they are balancing invisible bowls of breakfast cereal on their foreheads. they sometimes don't acknowledge your existence with normal human gestures such as smiles and nods. it almost feels like they are secret agents or spies that are not allowed to talk to you or something because it would compromise their dim sum missions and stuff. but i was okay with that. i went there, and their har gow dumplings are something you should try because they are the best har gow dumplings every invented, they are that good!

10.) guu's kim chi bi bim bap (and also scallop carpaccio)

i also ate at 'guu' in gastown. it is an izakaya bar, though they forgot to give us an oshibori towel at the beginning but it is okay because the waitress was super kawaii and i think i fell in love with her. i know they have a 'guu' in the annex (toronto) but i wanted to try the one in gastown anyways. it was so good! i think my favourite was the kim chi bi bim bap. the scallop carpaccio was also very yummy!

11.) prado cafe's traditional cappuccino

a really great vancouver place for coffee in the morning is 'prado.' tbh their traditional cappuccino is so life-affirming and beautiful imo. the cafe is located in a neighbourhood called 'commercial drive' which has a really great 'vibe' in the morning and has vintage stores and music stores and book stores and shoddy little rundown organic food markets and italian bakeries and coffee houses and stuff. it is not pretentious at all, though it might sound like it. there are lots of old italian people all over the place, which makes you feel safe considering you are in east vancouver. the whole area actually feels really bohemian and laid-back and effortless like parkdale (but less gentrified), so i really liked it.

missed.) nelson the seagull

one place i missed was 'nelson the seagull' i went to the inventory stockroom to buy a candle. inventory used to be called 'h(y)r collective' a long time ago. they are a magazine and blog and i used to read their blog in high school. they have a store in gastown now. anyways i asked the guy there for a food recommendation and he said they (the inventory swag crew) eat at nelson's everyday. i checked out nelson's menu and it looks great. i want to try it if i ever go back to vancouver.

anyways this is all i have to share with you today about food. i will share info about american food next time!
